As part of my new life philosophy, I have adopted a new motto…. “Do ONE thing”.
Choose a time frame suited to your needs/personality (you know yourself, choose what you feel is realistic, the idea is not to make it overwhelming!) and make a small change in that time frame.
For example, last week I started walking my daughters to school in their pushchair both in an effort to expose them more to fresh air, and for me to get back into exercising again. This week I put together a survival kit, or rather I STARTED a survival kit.
In past weeks I started making bread (which I am still doing), laundry liquid, and a bunch of other household items in an effort to both save money, and become a little “greener”.
Join me in an effort to “Do ONE thing”!!
Please join in and tell me what you are going to do, and how often you will make a change in the comments section below!! Share it with your friends and see how much of a change we can make in our lives, all those small changes add up to one big change!!

Great stuff Steph. My one change did start a few weeks ago when the price of petrol went up yet again! I am having a car free day once a week. If the weather & no kids commitments allow me I will even go for two. We are lucky that school is just 1 km down the road so an easy walk. And boy do we have some great conversations along the way. I love walking & biking full stop, am not a runner or a gym type of girl. Give me fresh out door air any day. I hope that the boys will continue to walk with me as they get into their teens (dreams are free) as i find they talk about anything when they dont have to look me in the eye. Just walk & chat, sometime Matt my youngest dosn’t even talk at all. He’s just happy to be in the moment. Of course there are days I have to kick them out the door & they moan & groan all the way there & back & I wonder where those lovely boys are that I had the other day! That could be my next one change CHILL OUT MUM! xxx
I love it Kim!! Yes, fresh air is good! I used to be a hard core gym girl but with time constraints I have chosen to kill 2 birds with one stone by walk/running the girls to school. It started as a 3 days per week commitment but I love it so much (especially Ruby’s giggling at my huffing and puffing up the hill…..well it is nearly 40kgs of weight in that buggy!) that I am doing it every day….at least while the weather permits!! You sound like you are really enjoying it too. Come back and let me know what your next “thing” is….whenever you’re ready!! This could be catchy!!! Yeah, I could use a chill pill too, sometimes feel like ripping out my hair but I guess that just means we’re normal eh?? haha!
I love this concept!! My one thing this week is to eat vegies at every meal… yes even breakfast!! So today I had an omlette and salad for breakfast and am about to have vegetable juice for lunch. aslo trying to drink more water
not doing so great wiht that yet.
Thanks Caitlin!! What a great start….veggies are good!! You can at least be happy you are getting more water through the veggies, right? Haha, I know not exactly the same thing but it’s all good. Well done on your “ONE” thing…..:)
well put sis, Sometimes it can be overwhelming thinking of ALL the things we want to change so focussing on ONE thing is a good way to make sure that you succeed instead of setting yourself up for failure and being upset when you can’t achieve it all at once! In the past 2 months I have been taking a slightly different perspective on this and getting rid of ONE unhealthy habit at a time….trying to change the things that are holding me back- too much wine, gone! too much sweets and chocolate, gone! too much coffee, gone! all of these stimulants were preventing me from feeling the way I wanted to feel and I wasn’t getting the most out of all of the good choices I was making….sometimes we need to choose one thing to get rid of as well!! Great post! I love the picture of you, it’s nice to see the beauty behind the words….:)
Love it all sis!! You are such an inspiration to many already so it will be great for you to have a platform to share that on!! Can’t wait to see the website!! Not sure about the chocolate though…hmmmmm, could you maybe just sneak a square in here and there?? lol
Hey Steph, inspirational as always:) My “one thing” is to read a book each week. I used to never be without a book but in the last few years I just lost the habit! Too busy, too tired and the most I read was the letters in 7 Days! When I was on my trek in Nepal (with no kids and no Blackberry coverage) I read 6 novels in 19 days – old tattered ones left behind to be swapped at various lodges! Mostly read by the light of my head torch tucked up in my sleeping bag. I rediscoved how relaxing it is! So that is my “one thing” for the moment. Then I think I am going to follow your lead and try baking my own bread, oh and the veggie garden, and learning spanish……….
Great idea Fleur! That must have been amazing to just snuggle up in your sleeping bag and just escape into another world with a book that God knows who has read before you?? Very cool indeed!! Your trip sounded amazing and Nepal is one of those places I never made it to but hope to get to someday (funny I was supposed to go there with a really good friend and then I met James and got engaged so changed the trip to come to NZ to meet the future in-laws….funny how life works!!). Let me know how you get on with the bread, veggies etc….our veggies are coming along nicely so far…planted some more last week but looks like we’ll have a heap of lettuce to harvest soon along with beetroot, spinach, celery, and kale….yum!
