About

Why did I drag you here to listen to what I have to say?

The answer is both SIMPLE and SWEET.

I want to leave a legacy of SIMPLICITY bound by LOVE for my daughters.  A guidebook, if you will, of all the LITTLE things that add up to one BIG thing.  A photo collage of loose buttons and bobbins, flour spattered kitchen benches, and little hands digging through rich soils like they might just find buried treasure.  The SIMPLE things that have been lost in the age of madness!  THINGS that feed the SOUL……

This is our JOURNEY.  A journey which I hope will INSPIRE and CREATE a new way of living that will ENRICH our lives and those around us.

We yearn for a better sense of COMMUNITY, a chance to LEARN and SHARE.  To have a forum where like minded people can BUILD ideas to bring change to those who need it.

I want the chance to CREATE and PRESERVE traditions, both new and old.  This is our everyday life, with school runs, soiled laundry and not enough hours in the day!!

My name is STEPHANIE HAMILTON and I am a MOTHER  of 3 beautiful daughters. These are the times to TREASURE.  I am a wannabe photographer, blogger, gardener, baker, and enthusiast (with just about anything!! I get excited!!).

I WANT to write it all down and never look back!

Out with the OLD and in with the NEW just took on a whole new meaning…..so glad you joined us for the ride!!

I am loving your blog. Have only just joined it. I am down in the south island & also have a couple of Top Bar hives which hubby built. Haven’t harvested the honey yet, any day I think! We have however had a little taste a while ago. It was just delicious! Hope to go to a Keeping Bees Workshop in Lyttelton in March held by Marcia Meehan from the North Island. I have so much to learn! Love to cook, garden, crafts, family life, have chooks, bees, 3 dogs & 3 cats. Enjoying cycling, kayaking, walking. You have a lovely family! I have daughter who is 21 & just graduated from Canterbury Uni last December. son is 13 & at high school. Have been married to hubby for over 30 years. How time flies! Have a lovely day!

Wow Linda, that is amazing! Good on you for just jumping into the beekeeping. I am keen but with my little ones I just can’t get the time (at the moment) to take a course so am hoping to learn off the people we have rented the hives from. I’ll have to look up Marcia too, would be neat to see if I could get into a workshop if she is in the North Island. Lyttelton is such a lovely spot! My in-laws live in Christchurch and when we first moved to NZ we stayed down there until my husband found a job in Auckland. Loved checking out the towns around there and especially loved Akaroa!! I read an article about Lyttleton community gardening which was really interesting!! Thanks for your comments, I love hearing what other people are up to and it’s nice to know that people are reading the blog and that we share a common bond of all the things you mentioned. :)

    • Nektar says:

      Hi again Linda,

I know we just “met” yesterday but are you ok?? I noticed you said you were going to a workshop in Lyttelton but are you living near there? Hope you are ok….just talking to a few friends who are alright but the damage is so bad. Keep safe!!!

      • Linda Forsdick says:

Thank you so much for your concern. It is devastating! However, we live in Rangiora, North Canterbury but are experiencing all the shocks. Few household items on the floor but nothing serious here.
Both ‘children’ of ours have made it home from Christchurch safely. Feeling for everyone affected by this event. The workshop in Lyttelton is not until March. Not sure if it will still go ahead. Apparently Lyttelton & Brighton are inhabitable! Power out, liquefaction & flooding are also adding to the problems. Keep safe everyone!

Hi there and thanks for popping into Kims collectables . I love your thoughts on Simplicity . I too am striving to find joy in the simple things ,making my home a place of refuge and at the same time living with things that I have chosen because I love them and not by what the latest trends dictate! I have found most of my tins (yes there are a few more than pictured!) in Op shops and Trade- me . Have a lovely weekend .

Dear Steph…I have been reading your blog for two days now..started in 2010 and finished just a minute ago with your August 2012 update. You made me laugh, cry, happy, thoughtful and reflective. Thank you for being here, thank you for this..the most amazing blog I have ever read. Love Kat

    • Nektar says:

Dear Kat, You have no idea how much your kind words have touched me. I write this blog for me, and only for me, yet I understand that from time to time it may reach beyond the confines of my heart and connect with people, and for this I am grateful! This blog is my therapy, and it has shown me my own magnificence through the talents that I had laid dormant for so many years. As a child I loved to write and take photographs……this blog took me back to that space and allowed me to open up to the world without feeling threatened. Thank you so, so much for taking the time to connect with my story, I am truly, truly honored that my blog has been worthy of your time. I have just completed my first book “Hungry” which I am about to unleash to the world soon. This blog has been a stepping stone to get to a place where I could sit down and compile photographs and words into a beautiful piece to share. Thanks again and I look forward to hearing from you again in the future!! Much love, light, and blessings!!!!

      • Kat says:

Looking forward to ” Hungry ” then! Please unleash it soon! We started a little blog as well…gosh…no comparison but it is about our life, love and how it has changed since we brought our beautiful daughter Rose home….3 years ago in Malaysia. Feel free to browse dear Steph http://woodheadworld.blogspot.com

        Love Katxxx

So glad you're here and have decided to engage and be a part of the Nektar community!! Love your comments, all of them!!
